Course Description
This 8-hour introductory course offers a hands-on exploration of four powerful instruments—the Shruti Box, Harmonium, Monochord, and Handpan. Each of these instruments is celebrated for its unique sound and meditative qualities. You will learn the basics of playing each instrument and discover how their soothing tones can be incorporated into your sound healing practice. From the warm drones of the Shruti Box and Harmonium to the rich resonance of the Monochord and the ethereal tones of the Handpan, this class will guide you in using these instruments for meditation, relaxation, and healing.
Course Objectives
- Understand the basic functions and cultural significance of the Shruti Box, Harmonium, Monochord, and Handpan.
- Learn essential playing techniques for each instrument, including breathwork for the Harmonium and rhythmic tapping for the Handpan.
- Explore how the tonal qualities of these instruments can be used to facilitate meditation, sound therapy, and emotional release.
- Gain practical experience in combining these instruments into a cohesive sound healing session.
- Develop the confidence to incorporate these instruments into both personal meditation practices and group sound healing sessions.
By the end of this class, you will have foundational skills in playing each instrument and a deeper understanding of how they can enrich your sound healing toolkit.
Who Can Take Electives?
- You do not need to be registered in the School of Sound Foundational Diploma Program to take an elective.
- Everyone is open to taking our electives.
- If, after taking an elective you decide to join the Foundational Diploma Program, credits have earned will be applied to your 24 hours of elective requirements.

Wyatt Mylius is a passionate sound healing practitioner and teacher who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his students at Rooted In Sound. With certifications in Peter Hess Sound Therapy, Gong Resonance Therapy, Nada Yoga, and Reiki, Wyatt's approach combines modern scientific principles with ancient healing traditions. He has trained with renowned experts, including Peter Hess, Mitch Nur, Ph.D., Mike Tamburo, Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary and Deepak Chopra, which deeply informs his teachings. Wyatt's classes offer an immersive experience that emphasizes sound's therapeutic potential for healing and personal transformation. A lifelong intuitive, creative, and musician Patrick integrates his training and experience in sound, Reiki, and bodywork to create and empower opportunities for deep healing and rejuvenation with his clients. Employing a compliment of techniques learned from teachers and masters in Bali, Thailand, Maylasia, and throughout North America Patrick strives to offer clients approachable and accessible opportunities for growth and transcendence of suffering. His creative, playful, and novel use of a compliment of healing and melodic instruments from around the world from gongs, bowls, and tuning forks to wind instruments and the voice makes for a dynamic theraputic experience.Whether creating and exploring new sonic landscapes in his soundbaths, or exploring the power of sound, vibration, and Reiki in private sessions, Patrick is looking forward to sharing his potent blend of personalized care with you!
