17" Helios Double Sided : C minor Hijaz / Eb Major Mixolydian Kindred Spirit Tongue Pan

The Double-Sided Helios 2.0 is a 17” overtone tonguepan made from a heat-treated high-carbon steel for optimal sound quality, and comes with a customize-able etching design. Each tongue on the Double-Sided Helios 2.0 is tuned with 1 overtone (an octave of the fundamental tone) using the Linotune program, to give additional layers to the sound profile. They have exquisite tonality which is closer to the sound and feel of a handpan than our other steel instruments. 

C minor Hijaz / Eb Major Mixolydian.

The Hijaz scale is very common in Middle Eastern music particularly Arabic and Egyptian Music. It may be seen as an altered Phrygian mode that is a Phrygian with a raised third in the key of C relating to the third mode in a C Major scale system. Exotic, Mysterious, Spooky.

The Mixolydian mode, and is warm, and expressive.  Great if you are looking for something Angelic and crystalline.  Excited, Bubbly, Changing.

Standard Features Include

A 10 note scale on each side of the instrument (Major and relative minor), 2 pick-up systems with a pick-up jack on each side for plugging in easily, 6 felted magnetic rubber feet which can be taken off or added on quickly making these instruments very versatile.  2 spun shells of high quality steel-alloy, an internal and external powder-coated finish (pure clear-coat or clear with sparkles), an internal pick-up system and input jack, a wooden laser-cut emblem and sound-hole plug to improve the bass frequencies, rubber feet, instructional booklet, and a set of house-made mallets.

How to play a tongue drum

The notes are laid out on each of the drums so that you can create a most beautiful melody by starting at the bottom and alternating right and left hands as you go around the instrument.  You can also play a beautiful tune by moving around the instrument in a circular manner.
